Friday Challenge: Listen to your Voicemail greeting and re-record
On select Fridays I will pose a challenge to you, the reader, to improve your lives and/or careers in some small way. Do you accept the challenge?
I make a lot of phone calls every day. I've done this for the last 25 years as my job has always been centered around starting conversations. More than half the time I don't reach the intended person right away and must leave a voicemail message--thousands and thousands of voicemails.
Most of the voicemail greetings I've heard are just plain bad.
One of the biggest mistakes is that the person simply has no greeting. The caller has no way of knowing they reached the right person if it's a generic default greeting. Many callers will just hang up and not leave a message.
This week, listen to your voicemail greeting. Make sure it clearly identifies you, is positive, upbeat, succinct, easy to understand and conveys the right message about you as a professional. If not, time to record a new one.
This might be the first impression a recruiter, employer or potential client has of you. Make it a good one!
