Friday challenge: Extend the olive branch to a rival.
On select Fridays I will pose a challenge to you, the reader, to improve your lives and careers in some small way. Do you accept the challenge?
Every time you see this person a negative emotion builds inside you. Something happened, perhaps long ago, that caused this burning ember to root itself deep in your psyche.
When you run into this person the ember begins to inflame. That enmity builds and can overwhelm all other emotions. Your day might have been pleasant and enjoyable up to that point but now all you can think about is the anger from whatever happened long ago.
Don't relive the same bad experience over and over. Put it in the past. Extinguish the burning ember. It's not simply because you should be a forgiving person. Mostly, it's because life is too short to keep experiencing these same negative thoughts, time and again.
This week, reach out to an old rival. Extend the olive branch with something as simple as a smile and a pleasant hello. Don't expect the same in return right away. It's not about how they react. It's about your own internal emotions.
It won't be easy, at first. But, you will see the benefits inside yourself almost immediately.
