Friday Challenge: Consider an alternative to a hotel for business travel.
On select Fridays I will pose a challenge to you, the reader, to improve your lives and careers in some small way. Do you accept the challenge?
Business travel for executives can be a grind. You fly from one place to another. The hotel rooms begin to all look alike at some point and it feels like a dull routine. There's the long day of meetings, dinner out with a client and perhaps a drink or two at the hotel bar before bed.
AirBNB and VRBO can be an alternative to break the monotony of the travel blues. Yes, it takes a few more steps in booking. But, you can stay at some very interesting places that feel more like home. The views are often spectacular versus the same gray parking lots you might see in a hotel.
One of the things I like best is having a full kitchen available to cook my own food. I can eat much healthier and get exactly what I want. I don't have to worry about loud people wandering up and down the hall or in the room next door, either.
If there's a pool, hot tub or deck to enjoy I'm not sharing it with strangers. It's peaceful and enjoyable. It might not work for every trip but it's a great way to break up the monotony.
